Bible Reading Today: Matthew 15:1-20

The Pharisees and teachers of the law complain about Jesus’ disciples not following the tradition of the elders. Jesus says that it is not what goes into people’s mouths but what comes out that makes them unclean. In other words, their hearts are what defile them.

Applications
  • Tradition is important for preserving heritage and teaching lessons already learned. However, we must be careful not to twist history to our own advantage. Let us teach others and our children about who God is and His Word—not ours.

  • How pure are our hearts? Let’s spend some time taking an honest look at our words and actions. Do they come from a pure and clean heart? Are we blameless before God?
